Spotlight - Garry Trinder

 

Each month we highlight a Prix de Lausanne-related international dance artist.

New Zealand School of Dance Director Garry Trinder has been a member of the Prix de Lausanne Artistic Committee since 2006. His foremost responsibility is to liaise with the Prix’s Partner Schools throughout the world.

Birthplace: Liverpool, England

Training: Royal Ballet School, Rambert School of Ballet, Maurice Béjart’s MUDRA.

Director, New Zealand School of Dance

Favorite roles/choreographies:

Anything by George Balanchine and Kenneth MacMillan.

Career highlight:

The pleasure and inspiration derived from working with the caretakers of great ballets and the opportunity to experience these works at first hand.

Message to the Prix de Lausanne candidates:

Wherever you find yourself dancing, always retain respect for the art form and don’t lose sight of the fact that you are privileged to be a dancer.

Message to the Prix de Lausanne organisation:

The Prix de Lausanne was started with the philosophy of providing young dancers with the very best in dance education. As the competition fast approaches its 40th anniversary, this philosophy holds true and we should never lose sight of this ideal.
